A Large Ottoman Silkwork Textile Botanical Embroidery, Circa 1880. Dimensions: ;102 1/2 inches x 72 inches wide. ;Fringe adds an extra 2 inches on each side. Conservation of Islamic Textile with Gold Embroidery on a beige satin silk background ; ;The textile is heavily embroidered with gold threads on a ;silk satin weave background. The weft was of a stronger cotton thread which was loose over much of the textile. The entire textile was lined with coarser cotton lining and attached to the embroidered areas by cotton thread. ; ; ; ; ; ;The need for reinforcement was made to stop any further loss and to be able to display the work; the weight of the gold embroidery presented a problem and to stabilize the textile, a scientific conservation method commonly used in museums was done. The entire ;silk background was supported with a thin synthetic fabric, adhered with a thermoplastic via very low heat. The process is entirely reversible and stabilizes the textile without any visible change to the original, and some older attempts at stabilizing with cotton threads were removed. The fragile and brittle fibers were then reinforced by a second such lining so the piece could be safely displayed. Strips of strong linen were then fixed vertically, along with a strong cotton lining, to support it for display, and the original silk lining reaffixed on the back. ; ; ;   « Less

Very Irish small table cloth, with green-embroidered scalloped edges, embroidery of shamrocks and a little red-caped woman spinning at her wheel in the corners. Cloth is beige linen. Measurements: 108 cm square (42.1/2 inches square). Needs a good pressing - has a few very very faint marks, not noticeable until you really look. Excellent condition otherwise.   « Less

Antique green silk chasuble decorated with delicate and intricate embroidery featuring a floral pattern. In the center there is a cross embroidered with sacred IHS signifying in Latin Jesus Hominum Salvator (Jesus the savior of humanity). It is also attributed to IHS the Latin "In Hoc Signo" (Conquer in this sign), allegedly worn in battles by the emperor Constantine the Great on his labarum (standard bearing sign). The central cross is delineated at the ends with fleur de lis denoting a French high prelate origin. This chasuble was purchased in Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam. Length: 68.5" (174 cm.). At widest point the chasuble measures 24.5" (62 cm.). The chasuble probably dates to 18th. century, it has age wear of the silk, nevertheless, the embroidery retained the vivid colors. Interesting historic and rare Catholic artifact originating from a mainly Buddhist country.   « Less

The sky and clouds are in watercolor. In the center is a stone monument with an urn on top. An inscription, written in script reads, "In Memory of Capt. Daniel Carlisle."
