William IV Sterling silver and cut glass cruet set on stand with carrying handle. Made London, England 1832 by John, Henry and Chas Lias. Length approx 10 inches and height More »
William IV Sterling silver and cut glass cruet set on stand with carrying handle. Made London, England 1832 by John, Henry and Chas Lias. Length approx 10 inches and height approx 10 1/4 inches. Shaped rectangular stand with gadrooned foliate/floral borders and beautiful shell feet. The handle consists of a series of arches - 4 sweeping from the sides and joining in the middle in a tapering stand that supports a u-shaped swirl with small scrolling ends. This in turn supports an arched handle, with the same gadrooned flowers and leaves as the bottom rim. The fitted bottles, held within support rings, stand on a platform, linked to the gently curving rim by an inverted, curving side. There are a total of 8 bottles. 4 have fuchsia shaped glass stoppers/lids. 4 have sterling silver lids, each with a finial/handle and pierced according to the function of the bottle: one with swirling reticulation used as a sugar sifter, one with small holes, for salt/pepper. Two with closed lids - one for mustard and one with a long, silver spoon attached to the indside of the lid. The glass is faceted and cut in a variety of columnar and circular designs. Very solid, stable appearance. Rings at terminals of two arches for holding stoppers when bottle is in use. Silver is hallmarked: Monarch facing right, lion passant, date letter ''r'' for 1832. Leopard head indicating London. Makers marks (some slightly worn) are IL over HL over CL for John, Henry and Chas Lias. Condition is generally very good. THe rims of the bottles have small imperfections, as is to be expected and one of them has a fairly large rim chip, clearly shown in the ''photos. Status: For Sale Reference#: 3219 Condition: good Year: 1832 Title: WILLIAM IV 8PC ST SILVER & GLASS CRUET SET 1832 « Less
