Exceptional, vintage, marquetry inlaid wood, Swiss works, music box. I am not sure of the connection, but this fine cylinder music box, plays The Harry Lime Theme by the composer Anton Karas from the 1949 movie, "The Third Man", which re-united both the stars and director of "Citizen Kane". The marquetry is of an estate with a large and looming mansion in the distance which I thought might be the "Xanadu" of "Citizen Kane". In any case, this beautiful box is in "like new" original condition with fancy burl around the sides, small ebonized feet and original brass "piano" hinge. The musical works are marked "Lador" Switzerland. All original excellent working condition. 6" wide x 4" deep x 2 1/2" tall.   « Less

Fabrique De Geneve eight song cylinder music box with nine bells c1870. This fine Swiss music box plays eight songs and has a beautiful sound. We just had it cleaned and had the original finish waxed. The inlay, depicting a bird in flight, is composed of exotic woods, including rosewood, boxwood, and tulip. This music box has its original silver plated key cover stamped S L Marsden 1870. Measures 22 and three quarter inches wide by 12 inches deep and 10 and one half inches high. The case is in mint original condition without any repairs or problems. This piece is on display in our gallery at Old Saybrook Antiques Center and can be seen in-person by visiting 756 Middlesex Tpke Old Saybrook, CT 06475.
