circa: 1910 width: 38 height: 78 length: 17 This beautiful English mahogany antique secretary was hand-crafted in Edwardian England around 1910 and recently imported to our antique furniture store here in Atlanta, GA, USA. Over the years, the mahogany has developed a rich patina, which enhances its deep, mellowed lustre. Satinwood string inlays provide subtle accents, while elegant solid-brass hardware contrast beautifully with the mahogany. The stained-glass doors are sturdy and operate smoothly, as do the drawers and fall. Each secretary drawer features hand-cut dovetailed joints, as was common in quality antique furniture, which signify sturdy construction and fine craftsmanship, and the lower two feature strong supports through their middles, ensuring long life and strong functionality. The back of this antique secretary features tongue-in-groove paneling, which is an older, seldom-used technique that indicates this bookcase was bench-made with care. The leaded glass doors make a rattle sound when opened, but all of the glass is in securely. The top and bottom sections of the secretary separate easily for shipping and movement, and can be secured with two accompanying screws. Like much antique English furniture, this antique secretary offers an elegant combination of utility and beauty that would make a fine addition to any home!
