Victorian, circa 1850 Staffordshire figure with a Theatrical and Literary theme which features a boy beside a pillar, putting a crown on his head, stood on a rectangular base. The piece is titled, ''HENRY. V. TRYING ON THE CROWN.'' to the front of the base. Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt titles and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the underside. This piece represents a scene from the Shakespeare play, ''The Second Part of King Henry IV''. Book reference,''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 296, figure 1078. Generally good. Kiln effects: a few specks of kiln soot caught in the glaze to the base front corners; Notable crazing; craze lines to the mold join up the side, to the pillar on the front and also to the reverse. Restored chips to back of skirt; restored chips to crown; repaired mold line crack to right arm; restoration to wrist of left arm; restored flakes to septre 14.6ins high, 5.1ins wide, 3.2ins depth
