Victorian, circa 1880 Pair Staffordshire Jackfield cockerels with bright gilt decoration and base line. Black glaze over red earthenware body. Vent hole to reverse of left facing and underside of right facing. Three stilt marks to underside. Similar pair illustrated figure 2822/2823, page 230, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. Rubbing to gilt. Right facing: No restoration. Re-colored flake to comb. Slight wear. Left facing: Stilt chip to lower base edge at front. Flake to reverse of tail. Slight wear. Kiln effects: piece of kiln detritus to wing; patch of thin glaze to chest. Restored chip to corner of lower base edge. 11.75ins high
