George IV, dated 1829 1829 Sampler by Harriot Farr. Framed in an old, possibly original, gilt over wood frame with rippled, old glass. Tacked to wood with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in fine wool and silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours black, cream, pale blue, pink, orange, greens and red. Verse titled ''Friendship'' reads ''Tell me ye knowing and discerning Few> Where i may Find a Friend both Firm and true> Who dares stand by me when in deep distress> And then his love and Friendship most express> Who by a secret sympathy can share> My toy my grief my misery my care> He must be prudent Faith Ful just and wise> Who can to such a pitch of Friendship rise''. Signed and dated ''Harriot Farr Aged 10 Years 1829''. A good set of motifs, including a large estate house flanked by trees, angels, flowers, fruit baskets, stags, squirrels, crowns, birds, butterflies and fir trees. Generally Good. A few small holes. Several rust stains around the edge and uniform age darkening. Minor stitch loss to the verse and a couple of motifs. Some colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. Very slight colour run around the verse. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang. 16.25ins by 21ins wide
