William IV, dated March 7 1835 1835 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Meredith. Framed in an old, maple frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours olive green, cream, green, light green, gold and dark brown. Verse reads ''Trust in the LORD with all thine> heart: and lean not unto thine own> understanding.> Get wisdom, get understanding> forget it not: neither decline from the> words of my mouth.> Forsake her not, and she shall preserve> thee: love her and she shall keep thee.''. Signed and dated ''Mary Meredith March 7, 1835 Aged 11 Years''. A good set of motifs, some finely detailed, including potted flowering plants and fir trees, flowers, crowns, diamonds, hearts, birds and fruit baskets. Good. No holes. A few small stains. Minor stitch losses to the border and motifs. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. Slight colour run around the green threads. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame in very good condition, ready to hang. 16ins by 17.25ins wide
