Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire spill vases modeled as a horse standing over a stream with a recumbent foal below. The foal and two legs of the horse are molded free. Dull gilt base line. Similar pair illustrated figure 2989/2990 page 255, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Right facing: Good. Slight rubbing to gilt and horse muzzle. Kiln effects: a few touch marks to base front; piece of kiln detritus to top of horse''s front left leg. Repaired shrinkage crack to foal''s tail. Retouching to ground and spill rim. Left facing: Generally good. Hairline to underside. Some rubbing to gilt. Kiln effect: shrinkage line to foal''s tail; a couple of firing cracks to reverse. Retouching to ground, spill rim, foal''s mane, horse eyes, muzzle and mane. 11.25ins high
