Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire pointers standing on naturalistic bases (possibly matched - the bases are a slightly different color brown). Right facing has a bird sat on the ground behind the dog. Both dogs have three legs molded free. Shredded clay decoration to bases. Dull gilt collars and lockets. Small vent hole to underside of right facing and reverse of left facing. Similar piece illustrated figure 2698, page 214, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding and figure 1, page 135, ''A-Z of Staffordshire Dogs, A Potted History'', by Clive Mason Pope. Good. Slight wear to front of both bases. Right facing: Kiln effects: shrinkage line along the mold join to the dog''s back. Restoration of front right leg and the bird''s head. Repaired crack to base. Retouching to paint losses. Left facing: Kiln effects: a few shrinkage lines to underside and some staining to crazing. Repair to front ankles. Repair to mold line crack running from rump to reverse of tree stump.
