1806 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Fawcett - For Sale

1806 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Fawcett
Price: $1300.00
George III, dated 1806 1806 Silkwork Sampler by Mary Fawcett. Framed in an old, possibly original, black, ebonised wood frame with glass. Loose mounted onto card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Meandering floral border. Colours gold, blue, black, pink, cream, grey and greens. Alphabet A-Z in upper case and lower case. Verse reads ''No radiant pearl, which crafted Fortune weers,> No gem, that twinkling hangs from beauty''s ears,> Not the bright stars, which Nights'' blue arch adorn,> Nor rising suns that gild the vernal morn,> Shine with such lustre as the tear, that breaks> For other''s woe down Virtue''s manly cheeks.''. Signed and dated ''Mary Fawcetts Work 1806''. A good set of motifs, including a large house, birds, flowers, fruit baskets, fir trees and potted flowering plants. Generally Good. A number of small holes. Some patchy staining. No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. Slight colour run around the black threads. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame showing some wear, but is structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung ''as is''. 17.75ins by 17.25ins wide
