Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire spill vases modeled as a boy and girl, both sat in a tree holding a milk pail. A russet and white cow stands on the ground below. The girl has two bundles of corn in her lap. Two legs of each cow, and one leg of the boy are molded free. Shredded clay decoration to the ground and tree. Dull gilt decoration and base line. Similar piece illustrated figure a2312C/a2312D, page 225, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 3, by A.& N. Harding. Good. Some rubbing to gilt. Boy: Small bruise to lower base edge at front. Retouching to the tree. Girl: A few paint losses to the tree. Slight rubbing to the black lines on bucket. Kiln effect: two shrinkage hairlines to front right leg, and another down skirt. Repaired crack to reverse and underside. Repaired hairline to cow''s hind right leg. Restoration of cow''s right ear/horn. Restored chip to base edge at reverse. Retouching to the cow''s front right leg. Two retouched flakes to the tree. 9ins high
