Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire figure of a black and white horse being attacked by a lion. The lion has jumped onto the horse''s chest with front legs clinging to its neck. Naturalistic ground with shredded clay decoration. Dull gilt base line. Vent hole to underside. Similar piece illustrated figure 3031, page 260, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Generally good. Very minor paint loss to horse''s tail. Kiln effects: heavily crazed all over; craze line to horse''s back and base at front. Repairs running around the lion''s back and horse''s neck. 12ins high
