Dated 1830 1830 Sampler by Celestine Chervin. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Stitched to paper with wooden backing. The sampler is worked in cotton on canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours olive green, blue, green, white, black, cream and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-0. Signed and dated ''CELESTINE CHERVIN AGEE DE 12 A 1830''. A wonderful set of motifs, including Jesus on the cross, birds, angels, flowers, candles, fruit baskets, potted flowering plants, a dress, urn, sailing ship, fir trees, man with a spade, man and dog standing in front of a recumbent cow and various tools. Generally Good. One hole. A few stains, a few moisture stains, and uniform age darkening of the ground. No stitch losses. Colours are faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang. 13.75ins by 14.5ins wide
