Victorian, dated 1845 1845 Silkwork Sampler by Hannah Bauldwhin. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with glass. Stitched to linen over wood with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout. Meandering floral border. Colours cream, gold, dark green and olive green. Verse reads ''How sweet to be allowed to pray> To God the Holy One> With filial love kneel down and say> Father thy will be done> Oh could my heart thus ever pray> With joy lifes course would run> Teach me O God with truth to say> Thy will not mine be done''. Signed and dated ''Hannah Bauldwhin Her Work 1845''. A few motifs including a potted flowering plant, castle with a garden, a horse under trees, birds, flowers, fruit and butterflies. Good. A few small holes. A few patchy stains and some stain specks. Very minor stitch loss to the border and motifs. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound and ready to hang. 15.75ins by 12.5ins wide
