Victorian, circa 1860 Pair Staffordshire figures of John Milton and William Shakespeare, both leaning on a podium. Milton has a parchment, a pen and a book. Shakespeare has books and a parchment. Both arms and one leg of each are molded free. Shaped bases with old, dull gilt decoration to the front and to their clothes. Decorated all round. Hollow bases with a painted mark. Good. No hairlines. No paint losses. Some rubbing to gilt. Milton: Repaired hairline to his back. Restored chip to the corner of scroll and pen. Shakespeare: Star hairline to chest and belly. No chips. One flake to front of base. Repaired crack to left leg. 8.25ins high
