Victorian, circa 1880 Pair Staffordshire donkeys, each carrying fruit filled panniers over its back. Modeled standing on an oval base with a stream flowing past in front. Three legs molded free. Shredded clay decoration to ground. Bright gilt base line. Vent hole to reverse of left facing. Similar pair illustrated figure 2929/2930, page 245, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. Some rubbing to gilt. Right facing: Two small chips to underside. Repaired hairline to face and hind right leg. Ears repaired. Retouching to muzzle and ground.
