Victorian, circa 1880 Glass fairy lamp with Nailsea-type fairy size dome in white with white loopings. Sits in an embossed clear glass cup with candle holder which rests inside the cup. Maker''s mark ''S. CLARKES PATENT TRADEMARK FAIRY'' to base of cup and holder. Fairy lamps originated in England in the 1840''s and are candle burning night lights that would have been used in nurseries, hallways, and dimly lit corners of the home. Similar piece illustrated on page 34, Schiffer''s ''Fairy Lamps'' by Bob and Pat Ruf. Good. No restoration. Dome: Minor nibbles around the top rim. Slight smoke staining to the top. Slight wear to cup and holder. 4.5ins high
