Victorian, circa 1880 Glass fairy lamp with Nailsea-type fairy size dome in blue with white loopings. Sits in an embossed glass cup with maker''s mark ''S. CLARKES PATENT TRADEMARK FAIRY'' to base. Fairy lamps originated in England in the 1840''s and are candle burning night lights that would have been used in nurseries, hallways, and dimly lit corners of the home. Similar piece illustrated on page 34, Schiffer''s ''Fairy Lamps'' by Bob and Pat Ruf. Good. No restoration. Several minor hairlines to cup rim.
