Victorian, circa 1860 Staffordshire double spill vase in the form of Malakoff castle. Modeled on a naturalistic base with title ''MALAKOFF'' in raised black capitals. Black base line and decoration around the pierced windows. Malakoff was part of the Sebastopol complex, which fell to the allies in September 1855 during the Crimean War. Similar piece illustrated figure 3141, page 272, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Fair. No restoration. Chips to turrets on the larger spill. Kiln effects: shrinkage cracks to the front below castle and to base at front and reverse; heavy stained crazing all over. 8ins high by 10ins wide
