An ORIGINAL HISTORICAL PHOTOGRAPH of POPE PIUS XI. This INTERNATIONAL NEWSREEL photo shows the POPE at the balcony of the VATICAN pronouncing a blessing on the crowd below. A press release (see image 3) was attached to the photo. It reads: ''His Holiness POPE PIUS is shown blessing 30,000 Alpine troops from the balcony of the Vatican. This is the FIRST APPEARANCE of his Holiness since the creation of the Vatican State'' The photo is in very good condition considering its age, but does have four small red lines where the photo was marked for cropping.
