William IV, dated 1831 1831 Sampler by Hannah Beardmore. Framed in an old wood frame with non-reflection glass. Stitched over a wood stretcher frame with card and chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in wool and silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours magenta, cream, blue, black, pale green and pink. Verse entitled ''AN ADDRESS TO YOUTH'' reads ''Ye dear ascociates of my youthful days say would you learn to walk in wisdoms ways> Like Mary come and choose the better part bow to the Saviour give him your heart> Do you desire to taste Gods pardning love and join the heavenly throng with Christ above> Like Mary kneel at the Redeemers feet with tears of penitence his love entreat> Do you desire true happiness bolow and those blessings which from Jesus flow> With patience bear the cross endure the frown like Mary you shall wear a heavenly crown> O may we all like pious Mary live our best our earliest days to Jesus give> Be blest on earth have all our sins forgiven at last with Mary may we meet in heaven''. Signed and dated ''Hannah Beardmore her work 1831''. A few motifs including potted flowering plants, flowers, fir trees, birds and a star. Fair. A number of holes. Staining to the right hand side. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Unevenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang. 16.25ins by 17.75ins wide
