Rare Aesthetic Movement Frame - For Sale

Rare Aesthetic Movement Frame
Price: $395.00
Circa 1885. Exceptional Aesthetic Movement picture frame. This is the most unusual example of a 19th century Victorian, Asian influenced (Japanesque) accessory I have come across. Made of bronze and other metal, decorated with growing bamboo and a bird on a branch fashioned in mother of pearl and either bone or ivory. The detail on the metal is exceptional with a "woven" back-round and three dimensional chrysanthemums, daisies and other flowers. The back is covered in what appears to be black leather, and the opening is backed in wood. The lighter wood support is newly made and very sturdy. The only condition issues are a discoloration on the tip of a leaf (below the bird) which could be an old repair, and a small hair line in the bronze by the birds beak, which appears to be superficial. The patina is worn on some of the raised areas of metal but is in over-all good condition. This rare frame would be a wonderful addition to any Aesthetic Movement collection. 7 1/4" wide x 10" tall. The oval photo opening is 5 3/4"high x 3 7/8" wide.
