Early 19th century, American Federal Period, oval mirror. I have never seen an early gilt mirror in such superb original condition. The frame is carved wood coated with gesso and real gold gilding. Very ornate all over with graceful fruit and flowers that give the mirror a Rococo feel. The bold crest is of an American Eagle perched on a branch with flowers and bunches of grapes framed by a leafy, open-work arch. Original flat, plate glass mirror, wood back, gilding and metal wall hanger, no restorations, repairs or touch-ups. All in very stable condition, with only one chip on the gilding (as pictured).
