Rare and important Italian 14th century iron sculpture of a mythological figure holding a snake (water god) from the Samuel Yellin collection. This very early European sculpture was documented in the catalog (page 16) for the "Made of Iron" exhibit held at the University of St Thomas Art Department, in Houston, TX, in 1966. Pieces were loaned to this exhibit by many important collectors and institutions, including among others J D Rockefeller lll and the New York Historical Society. Noted Philadelphia, PA, metal artist Samuel Yellin collected fine and rare examples of ironwork. He donated several pieces to the Metropolitan Museum of Art which are in its permanent collection.
