Actually this is the selfportrait of Bertel Thorvaldsen during his work on atypical in its idiom sculpture "The Goddess of Hope" (1817), inspired by sculpture of the Archaic period and executed during the years when, for Ludwig I, Thorvaldsen was reconstructing an Archaic group of figures from the Temple of Aphaia at Aegina.Condition: specimen is lacking a hammer in the artist's right hand and a chisel in his left one. otherwise great.
