An unusual bearded sancai glazed pottery figure of an male attendant on a hexagonal pedestal. His long-sleeved robe is colored in finely crackled green and ochre glazes. His life-like expressive face is molded with exquisite detail. Usually attendant figures are based on actual attendants so attention was placed on capturing the person's real face and personality. This practice of creating pottery attendants was started during the time of the first Emperor to be used in place of living people Age: 1368 - 1644 AD Size: H. 36.2cm. W. 11.4cm. Condition: No repairs. Normal ageing. Some loss of black paint.
