This is a large and beautiful Kakiemon plate from the Qing dynasty, circa. 18th century. The plate depicts painting of the country-side scene decorated in iron-red, green blue, yellow and black enamels and gilt with bird perched on a bowing length of bamboo amidst pine and prunus growing from behind banded hedges, another bird flying towards the other perching on one of the bamboo stem. Right below is a pair of blue coloured quail feeding on some seeds on the ground. To the extreme right, is a pine tree intertwining with bamboo tress, prunus and peony plant. Below them is a neatly banded bundles of straws in the Japanese tradition.

The plate of this huge size is very very hard to come by. The average size of Kakiemon plate that is commonly found is between 18cm to 21cm. Such large size is mostly found in private collections or museums.

There is a restoration to the plate to an age old crack starting from between about 4 and 5 o’clock, from the banded stack of straws to about the bird perching on the bamboo branch. Other than that, it is in good condition.

The measurement of the Kakiemon Plate: The diameter is 36cm and the height is 4.4cm.
