Cleveland was born in Washington Court House, Ohio. She studied art at the Art Students League & Pratt Institute in New York. Worked primarily in ink and watercolor, she is beat known for her illustrations in books and magazines. Her series of Southwest and Eskimo illustrations are considered very scarce. Our example, titled Zuni Home depicts a Zuni family at chores in the interior of their home. It was folded due to size and stored for decades before being found and professionally framed under glass. The benefit of storage is the rich and vibrant color on an 85 to 90 year old print, The cost is the visibility of the slight fold marks. A scarce and charming piece of early 20th C depiction of idealized Native American life. Size Framed 16.75" x 35", image 10.75" X 27".
