This item has been Sold. From the Indian hill tribes people of northwest Colonial India. This interesting sword is composed of an Indian hilt and a very well crafted european blade. The hilt nas a three bar iron guard that is slightly bent, with what is probably Hindi caligraphy on the langets. At the top and bottom of the grips there are brass contoured caps. The lower on the right side is missing and replaced by an old native repair. The fine quality blade is slightly curved with a false edge that is very characteristic of certain German artillery sabers of the 18th and 19th C. It does have some spots of rust and has not been cleaned. There is an unclear touch mark on the blade which was probably placed by the Indian armoury that composed the sword. During the 19th century several european countries actively sold their obsolete weapons to the tribal peoples of India, Central Asia and Africa. This sword may be the result. Blade: 26", hilt4.75. false edge, 10.26. 1870-80
