18thC Indian Tabar or Horsemans Axe

A war axe or saddle axe called Tabar from the hill tribes of eastern and north eastern India. A sturdy iron head inlayed with three brass bands at the throat of the blade and two or three bands, now missing at the back of the collar. In addition there are a group of four pyrimid shaped stamps, them selves formed into a kind of pyrimid forward of the brass ornamentation. The axe head has good form, the iron is dark with age and it shows wear from lengthy use. The wood haft is crudely formed and although showing wear and body oil from use, is undoubtedly a later replacement. 16" in overall length, head is 6" wide from back of the collar to the edge of the blade and blade 4.75" wide
