1969
This striking piece was created by well-known San Francisco Bay Area artist John Axton (American, 1922-2009), in whose early work may be seen the influence of Josef Albers, with whom Axton studied at the Yale University School of Fine Art in the early 1950s. Axton enjoyed a long and varied career, and his work has been represented in numerous galleries and museum collections. Signed and dated lower left. Simple gold leafed frame believed to be original to the artwork.
