Late 19th century - The 17th century Mogul emperors collected and admired the carpets of their Timurid ancestors in central Asia, and this elegant antique Agra carpet preserves the Indian reverence for such tradition. An allover reciprocal pattern of stars, squares, and diamonds contains smaller scalloped medallions and rosettes, all from the fifteenth-century Timurid repertoire The vinescroll borders reflect later Mogul tradition, but they harmonize beautifully with the inner detail and color of the field.
