Antique Agra carpet, late 19th century - The grandeur and large-scale drawing of the palmettes on this extraordinary antique Agra are quite elegant despite the graphic boldness of the design. Their rich red tones are offset by the soft blue used for the vines and some of the other palmettes, and by the creamy tone of the field. A red minor border helps to distinguish the field from the chocolate ground main border with its figure-eight vinescrolls and red carnations.
