Antique Sultanabad, Persia, late nineteenth centuryAn elegant ‘Mina Khani’ or trellis design of flowering vines and large rosettes in ivory and soft shades of blue and green repeats symmetrically across the terracotta field of this gracious antique Sultanabad. A somewhat more graphic interlacing ‘turtle’ or vinescroll borders set against a lovely pumpkin ground frames the field, with ivory ground ‘boteh’ or paisley minor borders for accents. The lustrous wool adds to the transparent delicacy of the classic Sultanabad coloration.
