These Magnificent German Historical Embroidered Burgundy Velvet Wall Hanging are in Excellent Condition,c1897. One panel translates – With God for Sovereign and Fatherland. The other panel with the Coat-of-Arms translates - Military “in” or “society” Palmbach. The names of four geographic locations are embroidered in each corner: Strasburg, Nuits, Dijon & Belfort. These areas are all under French rule today and are in the eastern part of France - border of Germany. The Alsace & Lorraine regions of eastern France were annexed (taken or incorporated within the domain of) by Germany from 1871 - 1918. Palmback was a village in Durlock, Germany (former capital of Baden, Germany). This was originally a two sided wall hanging that was professionally separated and made into 2 wall hangings to allow for wall hanging rather than being hung from a ceiling.
