The magnificence of classical Persian rug weaving comes alive again in this extraordinary antique Agra from North India. Like its Mughal predecessors, this Agra shares in the great classic repertoire of richly articulated palmettes and rosettes linked by a subtle, fine trellis. The border adapts these forms to a linear format. While many antique Persian and Indian rugs maintained the grand old Persian tradition, few continued the rich palette of deep contrasting colors as this one does.
