Robert Condie (1863-1923) was one of the better known cleekmakers of St. Andrews and was known for his handmade quality, having learnt clubmaking from James Anderson of Anstruther. Condie travelled to the states in 1890's to see how the mass production of the drop forged club heads was achieved. Although impressed, his knowledge of clubmaking prompted him to continue hand forging iron heads. After the World War I the firm was known as R.Condie & Sons Ltd and was eventually taken over by Robert's son George B. Condie.
