This delightful vellum covered racket is inscribed and dated in black ink which gives its excellent provenance 'Bedford Charles James Fox Oct. 1823, Endsleigh Cottage, Devonshire. This cottage was built and designed as a residence by John, Duke of Bedford and Georgina, Duchess of Bedford. The racket has lost its original cover from the handle but some of the decorative tooling on the leather edge of the head is still visible. This bottoir can be considered an early survivor.
