A good ice axe, the handle is made from ash with a good steel pick with various makers stamps, "Francois Simond & Fils, Chamonix, Mont Blanc. Simond Special". Also stamped in oval is "Modele & Marques Deposes".
There is also a retailers stamp of Robert Lawry Ltd. of London W1. And there is the makers Chamois head logo.
This is a fine quality ice pick in excellent condition.
Metal and wood have a good patina.
Ice axes are multipurpose tools used by mountaineers in both the ascent and descent of routes in frozen conditions.
