A spectacular mid 17th century decorated faience serving jug. Super green glaze and intense pick and scratch decorations. Truly wonderful large compound braid handle. Yellow glazed interior. Initials “P.W.“ and date “1642” in large inscription on base. Unfortunately the edge of foot is badly chipped, but no other damage and no restorations. Approximately 10 ½” tall. The entire surface has the most wonderful subtle iridescence (glaze oxidation similar to ancient glass), nearly impossible to capture in the photos. An honest original gorgeous piece! Ex Yves Roberts, Geneva collection.
