Late 18th Century Austrian Warzen Flask (wart flask / poison bottle). #B789
Here is a nice little whiskey or schnapps flask known in Europe as a “warzen flasche” (wart flask). This one is made in a 2 piece (hinged) dip mold and has a slight pinch to both sides. In America these types are sometimes referred to as poison flasks because poisonous mixtures were sometimes kept in such bottles so they can be distinguished in the dark by feel (days of candle light). This one is blown by the German half-post method (2 gathers of glass for strength) with a slight base kick-up and pontil scar on its base. It is 5 3/8” tall. There is some very faint stain in the base and a tiny, very hard to see, flake at the edge of the lip, mentioned for accuracy, please see the close-up photo of the lip, otherwise perfect. A very nice example of this neat type of flask!
