An important Italian cutlass, circa 1590, in outstanding condition that is engraved each side of the blade, full length, with the last 2 lines of the Te Deum religious Hymn:
“In te, Domine, speravi:
non confundar in aeternum”
Translation:
“O Lord, in thee have I trusted :
let me never be confounded.”

Re-curved quillions, down turned guards, spiral turned wood grip with the ricasso stamped with Toledo bladesmith’s stamp. Short stout blade with clipped point. 26” overall. The center piece for any early cutlass collection. This important sword is museum quality!
