Here is an interesting group of bottles that were used by chemists, apothecaries and pharmacies in the 19th century. Clear glass, onion form bodies, bases with kick-ups, pinched necks, flared mouths and open pontil scars. These all were probably products of Norway and were probably manufactured in the 1840 - 1890 period. Tallest is about 9” tall.
The pinch in the neck is to allow the liquid to flow more evenly when poring by letting air in one side as the liquid goes out the other. The flared lip is tooled in at its base allowing the liquid to stop before it is poured out. These features allowed more precise poring for measuring. No chips or cracks. All are virtually perfect and each one differs in size and form. Outer wear and light stain inside bases.
