Superb example of a naturalistic Elder Jamacoaque warrior. Posed holding a spatula and poporo (lime vessel) as if preparing for battle. Finely applied - head garment, ear rings, nose, chin and cheek plugs, bracelets and chest plate. Excellent post fired coloring. This figure served as a tomb guardian amidst other offerings that would have accompanied the dead in burial. The mythical attributes of costume are symbols in a communication system between humans and deities in life and in death. Northern Manabi region, Ecuador. 500BC-500AD. In Very Fine condition.
