This maroon lacquered antique Japanese buddhist traveling altar is spectacular. Bronze fittings on the door and gold lacquered clouds on the base. Gold sacred gem or 'hoju' on the roof. Inside, the doors are also gold lacquered and the inside chamber is lined with old Japanese washi sutra paper. The bronze and lacquer date the piece to the late Edo Period, c.1860.
