From the inside of a huge buddhist temple 'butsudan' or enclosed zen altar, this magnificently antique Japanese hand carved Meiji c.1880 gold gilt altar has intricately carved dragons on the sides and flowers on the front top. 'Maki-e' or raised lacquered lotus flowers adorn the back wall in the chamber. The roof itself is a maize of delicately carved buddhist architectural pieces. A few minor pieces missing here and there, but all in all in super condition and quite rare. c.1880. (34" x 25" x 14") (87cm x 64cm x 36cm). Shipping/insurance included in price.
