Japanese bamboo flower basket made from 'susdake' or smoked bamboo. In Meiji Period, bamboo framing in the ceilings of old Japanese farmhouses would age and color from the smoke of the hearth 'irori' and cooking fires. These pieces of bamboo were prized by bamboo basket makers for their patina. This basket is an excellent example. Wide strips interwoven with a plaited rattan handle. Great condition. c.1890. (20" x 8") (51cm x 20cm). EMS Shipping/Insurance to USA or Western Europe $50.
