This spoon has an unusually deep bowl, much deeper than that seen on most kidney shaped spoons. Length 9 1/2". Olympian is a multi-motif pattern with seventeen different handle decoration designs depicting susbject and stories from classiscal mythology. Here we see Paris, the son of Priam, King of Troy, presenting to Venus the golden apple, he having been called upon by Juno, Minerva and Venus to adjudge the prize of beauty to the fairest of these goddesses. A goddess is on the reverse of the bowl. There are incuse marks on the reverse ( indented below the surface)marks stamped after the piece was finished; Tiffany & Co.,Sterling, PAT 1878 If marks are are raised that indicates only when the die was made, not when the piec e was actually made. Thus we know that this piece really dates 1878. There is no monogram, no removal. A very heavy piece.
