Thank you for your interest in our item. We are pleased to offer for sale this beautiful antique Savonarola chair. This piece was hand made by an expert wood worker using solid walnut. This is one of the more ornate chairs of its kind. Almost every inch of the upper portion is intricately carved. This design originated in the 15th century. It was used by the most rich and powerful people of the time. Royalty and clergymen used these as portable folding chairs. As popularity grew and time went on, these chairs became more ornate and intended for in home use. This particular chair does fold and dates to the late 1700's to the early 1800's. Considering the age of this piece it is in amazing condition. The cushion in the picture is included and it does not appear to be original to the chair.
